Meet Author James W. Ure, of Seized by the Sun, The Life and Disappearance of WWII Pilot Gertrude Tompkins
On October 26, 1944, Gertrude Tompkins climbed into her P – 51 D Mustang (just like Miss Kandy), and took off from Mines Field (now part of LAX). She was never heard from again. Of the 38 Women’s Airforce Service Pilots killed during World War II, she is the only one still missing.
Join us on Saturday, August 5, and see a classic P-51 on display and hear the story of Gertrude and the ongoing search for her.
